Sami

During a journey through Scandinavia, we met a Sami reindeer herder. Her stories about the culture, traditions, and the struggle for the rights of the Sami people made a deep impression and served as the inspiration for this mural.

The mural was created on a rorbuer, a traditional fisherman's cabin in Lofoten that is built partly on land and partly over the water. The powerful gaze of the portrait symbolizes the resilience, pride, and connection of the Sami with their land and culture. The reindeer antlers subtly incorporated into the design refer to the centuries-old bond between the Sami and reindeer herding.

With this mural, I pay tribute to an indigenous culture that, despite many challenges, continues to express its identity and traditions with strength. The artwork connects the history and landscape of Lofoten with the personal story I was able to experience during my journey.

In summer, the mural will be caressed by the Midnight Sun, and in winter, illuminated by the Aurora Borealis.
