`The Embrace'

Eurovision Song Contest, Rotterdam

Mural project `The Embrace'
date: May 2021
location: Ahoy Rotterdam

For the international street art project The Embrace, organized by Stichting Rewriters during the Eurovision Song Contest at Rotterdam Ahoy, I was invited to represent the Netherlands.

Together with artists from various European countries, I painted a monumental block of approximately 6 meters high, with each side measuring about 3 × 6 meters. The project was entirely dedicated to connection and encounters between different cultures.

My mural depicts the power of contrasts. Young and old, black and white, man and woman merge together in one composition. Inspired by the principle of yin and yang, the artwork shows that differences do not have to exclude each other, but can actually strengthen one another. It is precisely the contrasts that together form a harmonious whole.

With this mural, I wanted to convey a message that is more relevant today than ever: when we are open to one another and embrace each other's differences, space is created for connection, understanding, and unity. It is precisely our diversity that makes us stronger.
