SubZero Street Art Expo

Dutch Ice Sculpture Festival

mural Dutch Ice Sculpture Festival
date: February 2026
location: Dutch Ice Sculpture Festival, Biddinghuizen

A project organized by Stichting Kings of Colors.

For the Street Art Expo SubZero, part of the Dutch Ice Sculpture Festival, I created a live mural inspired by the theme "Let's Go to the Movies". In this renewed setup, the worlds of street art and ice art merge: impressive ice sculptures form the backdrop, while artists bring their work to life on the spot.

Although the theme called for a connection with a well-known film, I immediately felt a strong connection with Avatar. Not only because of the visual splendor of the film, but especially because the story symbolizes, for me, the connection between humans, nature, and a fantasy world that has always been a part of me.

As a child, I grew up by the water. While many of my peers were occupied with very different things, I was convinced that I was descended from some kind of mermaid or water people. I drew endlessly and lived in my own universe full of extraordinary creatures, stories, and landscapes. For me, that fantasy world blended seamlessly into reality.

This project gave me the opportunity to bring that hidden world back to life. For the first time, I incorporated images and ideas from sketchbooks that had been sitting unseen on the shelf for years. As a result, this mural is more than just a nod to Avatar; it is a personal artwork in which my childhood, my imagination, and my love for fantasy worlds come together. A content subheading
