Project: Murals for Communities

Commissioned by the Murals For Communities foundation.

In 2019, I created this mural in Waterford (Ireland), in which a portrait of an incredibly strong woman and mother is mirrored by a portrait of myself.

This mural is about something that may seem self-evident to many, but is not for millions of people: growing up in freedom. The freedom to go wherever you want, without fear of violence, with the certainty of a safe home, enough food, and the people you love around you.

By placing these two portraits side by side, I wanted to show how different lives can be, depending on where you are born. The work invites you to reflect on the privileges we often take for granted and on the strength of people who, despite difficult circumstances, continue to fight for a better life.

This mural is a tribute to resilience, courage, and the universal desire to live in freedom and safety.
