Commissioned by Basisschool De Ganzerik, Reggy Bruine de Bruin and I created a colorful mural in the indoor playground. Where gray concrete walls once defined the space, a vibrant and imaginative environment has now emerged, inviting children to play, explore, and use their imagination.
The project was realized in close collaboration with the students. During the Enriched School Days, all children, from group 1 to group 8, created paintings on canvas around the theme of the fairy tale world. Their creativity formed the basis for the final design.
We incorporated as many ideas from the students as possible into the mural. Many figures and elements were translated into our own painting style, while other drawings were deliberately reproduced almost literally. In this way, the original ideas of the children are permanently immortalized on the wall.
The result is a mural in which the students' imagination takes center stage. Not only has the playground gained a warm and inspiring appearance, but the children also recognize their own contributions in the artwork. This fosters engagement, pride, and a strong sense of ownership over their own school environment.
